The Long Island Occupational and Environmental Health Center (LIOEHC) is part of a statewide network of similar centers created by the New York State Department of Health in 1986. The Center offers a wide variety of health and safety services to workers, employers, unions, government, and health professionals. Unique on Long Island for its integrated and comprehensive approach to occupational health, our primary goals include the following:

a) Provide a fair and accurate diagnosis of people's work-related medical problems;

b) Conduct medical screenings for groups of workers who have worked with or been exposed to dangerous materials, chemicals, or environmental hazards (examples include, asbestos, lead, benzene, excessive noise, sun exposure, ticks etc.);

c) Arrange for an industrial hygiene evaluation of workplace areas of concern, when applicable;

d) Make referrals to other medical specialists as appropriate

e) Conduct educational sessions on a wide variety of topics relating to workplace health and safety issues.
